The majority of Ghanaian artists demonstrate the value of integrating education with their musical abilities, proving that academic success and education can coexist.
In recent times, notable artistes like Stonebwoy, Blakk Rasta, Guru, Samini, and Dr Cryme, among others, have made great improvements with regards to pursuing higher education and earning degrees in various fields.
Three among these artistes have been able to achieve their dreams of becoming great leaders at their respective universities.
Here are the names of the artists who aspired to leadership roles in their schools and were able to succeed.
SAMINI
Samini holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), completed in 2022.
He pursued this degree to gain knowledge that would help him contribute more effectively in his music career and, at a point, took part in the Students Representative Council (SRC) presidential elections and won.
The reggae /dancehall artiste was sworn in as the President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) on Tuesday, August 23, at the school premises, where he made a speech saying he has never been in such a position but he is very grateful and willing to serve the institution.
GURU
Ghanaian rapper Maradona Yeboah Adjei, aka Guru NKZ, gained admission to the University of Ghan (Legon) to further his education on December 21, 2021.
The “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker reads for a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the University of Ghana.
His victory came after a fiercely contested campaign, marked by disqualifications, legal battles, and numerous challenges, making him the second Ghanaian musician to win such a position.
Dr CRYME
Darlington Agyekum, commonly known as Dr Cryme, is a Ghanaian rapper who enrolled at Methodist University Ghana with the intention of majoring in Business Administration, specifically Management Studies.
In addition, he was elected President of Methodist University’s Students Representative Council (SRC).
Dr Cryme declared his victory via a post on X on Saturday, April 12, 2025, demonstrating that Ghanaian musicians take their educational pursuits seriously as they do their music careers.
This is a bold, brave and good example being set by these artistes, and we look forward to seeing other musicians blend their education with their musical talents to improve in other aspects of their personal and social lives.
