‘Tarzan’ Star Ron Ely Dies At 86

US actor Ron Ely, renowned for his role in ‘Tarzan‘ in the 1960s television series has passed away at the age of 86.

The daughter of the celebrated actor, Kirsten Casale Ely, shared his heartfelt message regarding the death of her dad saying: “The world has lost one of the greatest men it has ever known – and I have lost my dad.”

The original “Tarzan” series aired on NBC from 1966 to 1968, during which the actor sustained multiple broken bones and reportedly faced animal attacks while performing his own stunts.

Ely retired from acting in 2001 and subsequently became an author, having written two mystery novels.

In 2014, he made a short return to acting when he was featured in a film by one television, ‘Expecting Amish‘, where he played the role of an Amish elder.

He also appeared in the 1980s in other TV series, including cruise ship-based comedy, ‘The Love Boat’, and ‘Wonder Woman’ with star Lynda Carter.

Ely was born in Texas and married his high school lover in 1959, but they divorced two years later.

He gained recognition for hosting the Miss America pageant in the early 1980s, during which he met his wife, Valerie. Together, they had three children.

Ely passed away at his home in Los Alamos, Santa Barbara, California, on September 29.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the actor’s daughter announced his passing: “My father was someone that people called a hero. He was an actor, writer, coach, mentor, family man and leader.”

“I knew him as my dad – and what a heaven-sent honour that has been. To me, he hung the moon.” she added.
