Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has advised the Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on the necessary steps to take to help restore confidence and rebuild trust with the US.
It comes on the back of the U.S. government’s recent decision to reduce the validity of Ghanaian business, tourism, and student visas to a single entry valid for just three months from the initial 5-year period.
A post shared by the actor shows him sharing his displeasure in the recent occurrence and blaming the minister and describing his utterances as defensive and dismissive.
According to him, the minister’s remarks, “particularly the assertion that he personally did not incur debt, missed the broader point.”
He also said that the issue at hand is not about individual responsibility but about the obligations of the Ghanaian government as a whole.
Giving possible solutions to the problem, Prince David Osei advised Hon. Ablakwa to consider issuing a clarifying statement or engaging in quiet diplomacy to reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to strong bilateral relations with the U.S.
Prince David also recommended that government representatives should communicate in unison, as sending contradictory messages about sovereignty, debt, and reparations would only erode our negotiation position.
