President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct six modern sports stadia across the country’s newly created regions.
While visiting the Western North Region as part of his “Thank You Tour,” President Mahama disclosed that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation is spearheading the project’s design and development.
“Under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure,” he stated, addressing a gathering of local leaders and residents.
The initiative seeks to ensure equitable access to quality sporting infrastructure across all parts of the country, with a particular focus on enhancing opportunities in under-resourced areas.
The six new regions — Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo — were created following a national referendum aimed at improving governance and bringing development closer to the people. Their addition expanded Ghana’s administrative regions from ten to sixteen.
