Paid Allowances Boosted Black Queens’ Morale – Ghana’s Ambassador To Morocco

Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Her Excellency Charity Gbedawo, has acknowledged that the payment of outstanding allowances to the Black Queens played a key role in boosting team morale ahead of their crucial match against Tanzania.

In an exclusive interview with JoySports WAFCON 2024 correspondent Lawrence Baidoo on Sunday, Ambassador Gbedawo confirmed that the Ministry of Sports and the relevant authorities had fully settled the team’s outstanding debts before the game.

The Black Queens responded on the pitch with a commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Speaking after the match, Ambassador Gbedawo praised the team’s performance and highlighted the timely financial support as a motivating factor.

“I told you earlier that we were having some challenges with regards to their finance and things. But the Minister for Sports quickly intervened and dispatched the accounting officer to come and sort them out,” she said.

“So, it also boosted their morale, with the little support that the embassy also gave. So, we are not surprised. We are grateful to God that we have made it. And I know that they are going to make Ghana proud.”

Ghana’s victory saw them finish second in Group C with four points, and now face Algeria on July 19 for a spot in the last four.
