Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II Ready For Commissioning

All preparations are complete for the commissioning of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II. The official opening of this significant infrastructure project in Accra will soon mark a major milestone in the city’s development.

The second phase of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange, which began in March 2021, has faced several delays due to various challenges, including the government’s external debt exchange program.

Despite these obstacles, the project is now almost complete, with the bridge and surrounding infrastructure receiving the final touches.

Messrs QGC UK Limited constructed the interchange for €92 million, incorporating a three-tier structure to enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion in one of Accra’s busiest areas. The project also features extensive storm drainage systems to address the perennial flooding issues in the region.

Residents and commuters can look forward to a significant reduction in travel time and improved connectivity between key areas such as Kaneshie, Circle, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The Roads and Highways Minister, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, has emphasized the project’s importance, noting its role in enhancing the overall infrastructure and economic development of Accra.

The government and contractors are diligently working to complete all aspects of the project to the highest standards as the commissioning date approaches, promising a transformative impact on the city’s transportation network.
