Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, has announced his squad for the upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Angola and Niger, featuring three debutants who have earned their first call-ups to the senior national team.
The inclusion of Nathaniel Adjei, Razak Simpson, and Emmanuel Antwi brings fresh talent to the Black Stars as they prepare for these crucial matches.
Nathaniel Adjei (FC Lorient)
The 22-year-old centre-back, who currently plays for French Ligue 2 side FC Lorient, makes his debut in the senior squad after representing Ghana at both U-20 and U-23 levels. Adjei was part of the Black Satellites and recently featured for the Black Meteors at the U-23 AFCON in Morocco.
Adjei’s journey began with Nungua-based Danbort FC before a move to Sweden’s Hammarby TFF, eventually landing him a spot with Lorient in 2023. This season, Adjei has made nine appearances, helping his team secure second place in the league. Known for his composure and defensive skills, he brings valuable experience from European football to the Black Stars’ backline.
Razak Simpson (Nations FC)
Nations FC’s 26-year-old defender Razak Simpson, a versatile player capable of operating as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, has earned his first national team call-up after a standout season in the Ghana Premier League. Over the past year, Simpson has solidified his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable defenders, with strong performances that include six clean sheets and an MVP award from his nine starts this season.
Simpson has previously played for WAFA and AshantiGold, but it’s his recent form with Nations FC that has attracted attention. With his impressive ball-striking technique, Simpson is also a potential asset for Ghana in set-piece situations.
Emmanuel Antwi (Asante Kotoko)
Asante Kotoko’s 28-year-old midfielder Emmanuel Antwi completes the list of debutants. Known for his attacking prowess, Antwi joined Kotoko this season on a three-year deal from Great Olympics, where he scored six goals last season. Antwi has started every game for the Porcupine Warriors this season, scoring once and showcasing his versatility in various midfield and wing roles.
Antwi’s experience in the Ghana Premier League, coupled with his goal-scoring ability, adds depth to the Black Stars’ midfield options, making him an exciting addition to the squad.
The Black Stars face Angola on 15 November in Luanda, followed by a home match against Niger on 18 November in Accra. These matches are critical as Ghana aims to secure its place at AFCON 2025, with the debutants poised to make an impact on the international stage.
