Media Coalition Against Galamsey Set To Hold Red Band Protest On October 10

As part of efforts to press hard on the government to address the escalating galamsey menace, the Media Coalition Against Galamsey has stated plans to organize a “Red Band” demonstration against illegal mining in solidarity with Organised Labour’s indefinite strike, set to begin on October 10, 2024.

The Convener of the Coalition, Kenneth Ashigbey, mentioned this in an interview on Wednesday, October 9.

According to him, the aim of the protest is to reiterate calls for the government to combat the galamsey menace, after its failure to meet demands to curtail illegal mining.

Protesters rally to call for a hault in galamsey.

Protesters are called upon to show their support by wearing red bands on their arms or heads and tying red bands on cars, motorbikes, bicycles, and other vehicles.

They are also urged to share photos and videos of their participation on social media with the hashtags #StopGalamseynow, #SaveOurLand, and #SaveOurFuture.

Coalition, in a public notice, encouraged Ghanaians to go on with the protest indefinitely until the government takes decisive measures to fight illegal mining and the environmental destruction it causes.
