In a recent statement, Majority Leader Hon. Afenyo Markin has raised significant concerns regarding President-Elect John Dramani Mahama’s proposed “nkokɔ nketenkete” policy.
Markin questioned the feasibility of Mahama’s funding plan, particularly in light of his promises to eliminate key taxes such as the betting tax and port tax.
Markin emphasized that these tax cuts could severely impact government revenue, making it challenging to sustain essential public services and development projects.
He also expressed skepticism about the proposed number of ministers in Mahama’s administration, suggesting that an increase in ministerial appointments could strain public finances further.
Highlighting the need for fiscal responsibility, Markin urged the President-Elect to provide clearer plans on how he intends to balance his ambitious policy goals with the necessity of maintaining a stable and accountable financial framework.
The majority leader’s critique underscores the importance of transparent and sustainable economic strategies in the new administration.
