Mahama Refuses To Debate Bawumia, Says He’s Not On His Level

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has strongly reaffirmed his stance against participating in a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This comes following a challenge thrown to the former President by President Akufo-Addo to debate Bawumia on major national issues ahead of the December 7 polls.

Mahama defended his record as president and dismissed the calls for a debate when he was addressing the residents at a mini-rally in Prampram, as part of his Greater Accra Region campaign.

He contended that debating Bawumia would not enhance the discussion and insisted that his accomplishments during his presidency should stand on their own.

Mahama criticised Bawumia’s handling of the economy, highlighting the difficulties Ghanaians have experienced under the current administration. He added that participating in a debate would merely provide Bawumia with an unearned opportunity to speak.

“Nana Akufo-Addo was asking me why I’m refusing to debate Bawumia. You know, Bawumia doesn’t deserve a debate. He is losing this election. I will not elevate him to my level and go and sit and debate him.

“Their campaign is failing. They have no message and so, he wants to be elevated to my level. No. No. No. No. I know my level,” he said.
