John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that Ghana is no longer a model of democracy as the country was known for.
The former president has accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of destroying all state institutions including the judiciary.
“Everybody looked up to Ghana as the model of democracy, today, we are a bad model of democracy. Our judiciary is not independent, all our state institutions have been destroyed,” Mr Mahama said during his campaign in Bimbila on Tuesday, October 29.
According to Mr Mahama, President Akuffo-Addo has pilled the judiciary with judges who are sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He stated that the incumbent government intentionally appointed their cronies to occupy positions within the judiciary.

Addressing the participants at the 3rd Annual Lawyers Conference of the NDC, Mr Mahama asserted that the party employed these tactics to help them avoid accountability when they are out of power.
He stated that there are approximately 80 judges in the system, and this number could exceed 100.
“Currently, the judiciary is packed with NPP-inclined judges because this government has carried out a deliberate policy of putting their people onto the bench.”
“He [Akufo-Addo] has appointed the biggest number of judges onto the bench, it is more than 80 towards 100 and counting. You can see what the current president has done.”
