Manchester United has dismissed manager Erik ten Hag following a series of poor performances.
The 54-year-old Dutchman was notified of his termination on Monday morning after two and a half years at the helm. The team suffered a 2-1 defeat against West Ham over the weekend.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” according to a statement released by the Club.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former Dutch striker who served as assistant manager, will assume the role of interim head coach while the club searches for a permanent manager.
Ten Hag managed to keep his position following a summer review by the club’s management after leading the team to an FA Cup final victory against rivals Manchester City in May.
This decision came despite United finishing last season in eighth place; their worst-ever position in the Premier League, and being eliminated from the Champions League before Christmas.
A string of poor results, including 3-0 home losses to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, significantly impacted the team’s start to the current Premier League season.
United is currently in 14th position after playing nine matches.
In 2022, Ten Hag entered into a three-year contract with United, succeeding interim coach Ralf Rangnick following the departure of former coach and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
