In a recent X post, Ghanaian musician Edem made a heartfelt appeal to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
Edem, who performed at Mahama’s final rally, urged the president-elect to include the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) in the list of institutions under investigation under the NDC’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
Edem’s post read: “Dear President @JDMahama, I performed at your final rally because I believe in your vision. Please don’t forget to add @ghamroonline to the list of institutions to probe. I am willing to dedicate my time to contribute to a pro bono committee that would aid in seeing change in the creative space with other colleagues. Thank you.”
He further highlighted the potential contributions of notable figures such as Seven, Mark Darlington, and C-Real, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in bringing about meaningful change in the creative industry.
Edem’s call has sparked a conversation on social media, with many supporting his push for accountability and transparency within GHAMRO while others condemn him.
This move aligns with Mahama’s 120-day social contract agenda, which aims to tackle corruption, recover state resources, and promote accountability in key institutions.
As the creative industry eagerly awaits the new administration’s actions, Edem’s proactive stance underscores the need for reforms that will benefit artists and stakeholders alike.
