The TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 has been postponed until August 2025, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The competition, which was originally scheduled for February, will now be played in August.
CAF has been considering postponing the event for several months due to logistical and infrastructure issues.
With less than a month until the tournament’s start date, some of the facilities set to host it, including the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar City, Tanzania, are yet to be completed.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his appreciation for the leadership and commitment shown by the Presidents of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
He said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and the significant progress made in developing the necessary infrastructure for the tournament.
I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovation efforts, and I am confident that by August 2025, the stadiums, training fields, hotels, and hospitals will be up to the required CAF standards for a highly successful CHAN.”
The official draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi time.
