The Black Stars fell to Sudan’s strong performance, losing 2-0 in their bid to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday, October 15, at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.
The senior national team’s winless streak, which was once a high-performing squad, has now stretched to four matches following their loss to Sudan.
The technical team made a single change to the starting lineup from their previous 0-0 draw in Accra, with Iñaki Williams replacing Jordan Ayew in attack.
The Black Stars were wasteful in front of goal, failing to register a single shot on target from their four attempts, despite controlling possession in the first half,
Sudan, despite managing two shots on target from five attempts, couldn’t find the back of the net before halftime.

In the second half, Sudan took advantage of Ghana’s defensive lapses. Ahmed Al-Tash opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, seizing on a mix-up between goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and his defense to finish into an empty goal.
Only three minutes later, Mohamed Abdelrahman extended the lead, calmly converting a pass from Ahmed Yousif.

The loss puts Ghana five points behind Sudan, led by former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.
Otto Addo’s team now faces a challenging path ahead, with crucial matches against Angola on November 11 and Niger on November 19, as they strive to maintain their AFCON qualification hopes.
