Black Satellites winger Abdul Sulemana expressed disappointment after Ghana’s elimination from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations at the quarterfinal stage.
The Black Satellites came from 2-0 down to hold hosts Egypt to a 2-2 draw in full time.
After extra time, the 2009 U-20 AFCON winners suffered a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to exit the competition and miss out on a ticket to the next U-20 World Cup in Chile.
“I think we came all out. It’s always hard when you’re 2-0 down and then coming up.” Despite a remarkable comeback, the team fell short in the penalty shootout.
“We tried our best, that’s what matters,” Sulemana said. However, the team’s primary goal was to qualify for the World Cup and win the trophy.
“The aim was to qualify for the World Cup, and after qualifying, we get to win the trophy, but unfortunately, we are not happy,” he added.
Sulemana left no doubt about the team’s feelings, stating, “We are out at the quarterfinals. We are not happy at all.”
The result means the Satellites exit the competition with the host advancing to the semifinals while also grabbing a World Cup slot.
