The High Court in Amasaman has turned down a request for bail from Patricia Asiedua Asiamah’s counsel while her appeal is still going on.
Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a member of her legal team, told Citinewsroom that the court turned down their request for bail and told the Circuit Court to send it all the paperwork it needed for the appeal that was still going on.
This comes after Nana Agradaa’s lawyers decided to fight her recent conviction. The Circuit Court, led by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, condemned the evangelist and former traditional priestess to 15 years in prison on July 3 for fraud and false advertising.
Her lawyers have since filed an appeal, saying that the trial was unfair and the decision was wrong. On July 7, lead attorney Richard Asare Baffour said that a formal petition had been lodged to the High Court asking for both the conviction and the prison sentence to be overturned.
Nana Agradaa’s legal team stated that they remain committed to pursuing the appeal process through the appropriate legal channels, despite being unable to secure bail.
