The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Board has been petitioned by Ghanaian musicians Lali x Lola to have the Best Group of the Year category reinstated.
The identical twins expressed concern in an open letter about the lack of appreciation for music groups, despite their significant influence on the business.
Emphasizing the significance of appreciating the efforts of gifted organizations like DopeNation, Keche, and Bhad Mayors, Lali x Lola focused on their rebirth.
Reintroducing the category, they say, honors cooperation, innovation, and teamwork—qualities vital for the expansion of Ghanaian music.
The duo asked the TGMA Board to give their request for the 2025 edition and beyond some thought.
They contended that acknowledging music groups would boost creativity, honor Ghana’s cultural past, and close an award gap.
The TGMA can encourage group efforts, honor outstanding groups, and help Ghanaian music to flourish by restoring the Best Group of the Year category.
