Ghanaian rapper Edem Goget’em recently expressed on X that he believes he should have won the Artiste of the Year award at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.
He compared his situation to this year’s Ballon d’Or, where many expected Vinicius Jnr to win but he did not. Edem implied in his post that he deserved the Artiste of the Year title, but it was awarded to someone else.
“Why #BallondOr come dey behave like the way VGMA take do me 2015 Artist of the Year? This is a heinous crime!! A daylight robbery!! … Vinicius Jr is the REAL WINNER’? ” he wrote.
In 2015, the nominees for the Artiste of the Year category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards included Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini.
After winning the award, Stonebwoy remarked in his speech,“I believe that the other artistes are happy I won…Behold how tall we have grown…This is well deserved.”
Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Edem were the standout winners of the night, each receiving three awards.
Edem’s song “Koene” received multiple nominations, while the remix of his track “The One” also secured him a spot in the Best Rapper category.
