Agona West NPP Nasara Coordinator Reportedly Shot During Campaign Clash

Haruna Rashid, the Nasara coordinator for Agona West NPP Constituency is currently in a serious condition after allegedly being shot during a campaign clash at Agona Nyarkrom, Central Region.

The incident took place around 9 PM when Mr Rashid was traveling in the convoy of NPP parliamentary Candidate Chris Arthur in which three other individuals were injured.

According to police reports, supporters of Christ Arthur and rival candidate, Cynthia Morrison came into contact with each other while campaigning in the same area.

Tension increased when Mr Arthur’s convoy reportedly stumbled over a roadblock allegedly set up by Ms Morrison’s supporters.

As the convoy made an effort to turn away, shots were fired, and Rashid who doubles as Mr Arthur’s campaign manager was shot in the ribs.

Chris Arthur relayed the incident, explaining how they encountered the blockage near Nyarkrom Township.

“We decided to change direction but it was too late” He mentioned.

Mr Arthur detailed how unrecognized individuals first poured alcohol on their driver, resulting in him losing control before two men advanced to shoot Rashid.

Rashid was first rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital and has been moved to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment because of the seriousness of his injuries.

Alhaji Jibri Tanko, the Agona west NPP constituency chairman has criticized the violence cautioning all Supporter to desist from any form of Harassment.

“We will not allow anyone to intimidate us in this election,” He declared.

Also, two supporters from Cynthia Morrison’s camp were injured by gunshots and are receiving treatment at the Agona Nyarkrom Health Center while investigation is still underway.
