Deadly Accident on Kumasi-Obuasi Highway Claims 12 Lives

Twelve lives have been tragically lost in a fatal accident that occurred on Monday, October 14, 2024, when a VIP bus en route to Enchi from Kumasi in the Western North Region veered off the road and entered a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi.

The police have confirmed that 11 passengers died at the scene, while one more passenger was injured and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Six males, five females, and a child were passengers on board the bus when the tragic incident happened.

The driver, named Osei Adu, was taken to the hospital for treatment but tragically died shortly after his arrival because of the extent of his injuries.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the bus, registered as ER 2445-11, was overloaded after collecting numerous stranded passengers from another bus that had broken down on the route.

The bus reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp curve, causing it to skid off the road and into the ditch.

Emergency services, comprising police and fire personnel, were promptly sent to the scene to assist survivors and transfer the injured to nearby hospitals.

However, the severity of the injuries for those who survived remains critical.
