The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that the elimination of the E-levy and Betting Tax is certain to bring relief that is desperately needed to Ghanaians.
In a post on his X page, the Finance Minister said, “Parliament has just passed the bill I introduced to eliminate the E-Levy! I am certain that H.E. President Mahama would sign it soon, providing much-needed respite to the good people of Ghana.”
Ghana’s Parliament authorised the elimination of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) in the 2025 budget declaration on Wednesday, March 26.
Since March 29, 2022, Ghana has levied an e-levy on transactions conducted via electronic or digital channels.
“The tax was intended to generate funds to stimulate entrepreneurship and national development,” he added.
However, the finance minister declared that the implementation of the E-Levy and the betting tax failed to achieve their goals.
