John Dumelo Promises To Push For Enforcement Of The Rent Control Act

Ghanaian MP and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture John Dumelo has made a promise to enforce the rent control act.

The Rent Act of 1963 (Act 220) is the primary legislation governing tenancy agreements in Ghana, outlining the rights and obligations of both landlords and tenants, and also aims to balance their interests by establishing fair rental terms and protecting tenants from unreasonable rent increases.

Back on 17th August 2020, John Dumelo said one of the first things he will do when he gets to parliament is to push for the enforcement of the rent control act in a post sighted by PLUZZ89.9FM.

He also probed how Ghanaians, especially the youth, survive in an economy where individuals have to pay 2 years’ rent upfront.

In light of this, people have called on John Dumelo to revisit the commitment he made 5 years ago now that he is in power.

Responding to the several comments from X users, the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency made a reassurance that it is being worked on.

He also stated that engagements with the ministry responsible for housing have commenced, and in due time he is going to update the general public on all the developments.
