The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following disputes over the authenticity of election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
This decision, announced in a press release dated July 2 and signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, comes after a crucial meeting between representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The controversy began when the NDC raised concerns about the use of scanned Pink Sheets, documents that record results at the polling station level for the collation of results in 37 polling stations. According to the NDC, the scanned forms, allegedly provided by the NPP, were not sufficiently verified and compromised the integrity of the results. The party subsequently called for a complete rerun in all 37 polling stations.
The NPP, however, argued that only three polling station results remained outstanding and that the scanned Pink Sheets in question had been acknowledged and signed off by agents from both parties during the collation process.
The Electoral Commission has since clarified that the original Pink Sheets were destroyed during a chaotic incident at the collation centre when political party supporters disrupted the process. As a result, scanned copies were used to continue the collation.
After carefully reviewing the matter, the EC resolved to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 of the 37 polling stations. The Commission explained that these 19 scanned results, while approved by party agents, were not verified by the Presiding Officers, a key requirement for validation. The remaining 18 scanned Pink Sheets, having received both agent and Presiding Officer verification, will stand.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, and the EC has reiterated its commitment to a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process with the Ghana Police Service being tasked with ensuring security throughout the rerun to maintain peace and order.
